Amrote Abdella visited Australia in May

Amrote Abdella would like to thank everybody who attended her recent meetings here in Australia where she shared her experiences of the developing world. Amrote is part of a strategic program called The African Women Food Farmer Initiative (AWFFI).
AWFFI is integrated into The Hunger Project's epicentre strategy - a strategy that mobilises cluster of villages to work together to meet their basic needs. To date, there are 103 epicentres encompassing more than 1,000 villages and 3 million people.
The ultimate goal is to assist partners in forming officially recognised, women-led rural banks. This is key for local self-reliance and it means savings can be mobilised across the whole community. Income from the bank can be borrowed again, or put into community decided initiatives. The bank is entirely owned by its members and managed by the AWFFI women in the epicentre.
We were lucky to have Amrote here in Australia to share about this ground breaking initiative. Amrote brings a wealth of experience to what makes The Hunger project's approach so unique, innovative and effective.
We are also continuing to expand and succeed our programs in all 13 developing countries. We re accelerating our work in scale-up, influencing decision makers, impact assessment studies and strengthen our existing programs.
